It was a weekend full of controversy especially after Arsenal loss to Chelsea…
Enter the culprit, Diego Costa. He is one of those players who likes winding up the opposition and it seems the world of football had enough of his antics this weekend.
His altercation with Gabriel Paulista of Arsenal led to the latter earning a red card after Gabriel had stamped him.Cameras show Costa going at it with Gabriel and whatever he said I don’t want to know. Before that he also had problems with Laurent Koscienly after he used his hands to try and block him. The memes that followed after that got me thinking deeply…
Should we subject Costa to abuse or praise his style of play?!
Personally I would praise the Spanish international for his style of play. He is the perfect embodiment of Jose Mourinho on the pitch as Roy Keane was to Sir Alex Ferguson.
Gabriel was largely at fault for his sending off and he takes as much blame for the loss as Santi Carzola who also earned a red card for two bookable fouls.
As a defender myself, it is my personal responsibility to learn my opponents style of play. That being said, Gabriel should have known or maybe he knows that it is Diego Costa’s trademark to try and wind up his opponents and he should’ve ignored his jibes instead of following the same route that Zidane took during the ’06 world cup.
Even though the pair were both charged by the F.A, I think that the decision against Costa was unfair because he didn’t do anything that would have earned him a red card.
The question still remains…should Diego Costa have seen red??
